Understanding the need for new renewable energy alternatives in Guatemala, and considering the social unrest around hydroelectric projects in the country, AVINA Foundation commissioned us to engage multiple stakeholders in order to identify public policy issues and corporate best practices in current projects that could be promoted. We formulated a report that identified 1.) specific issues requiring reform in the regulatory frameworks and 2.) evaluated companies’ best practices in community relations in currently operating hydroelectric companies. This entailed extensive stakeholder consultations among diverse stakeholders to evaluate programs from different perspectives.
